And this is the mandatory WC post…

I think everyone has written a post about the World Cup mainly to record for yourselves this momentous occasion. We did the usual – had friends over, drank, shouted, ate like pigs. And now i think i suffer from post world cup depression. Of course ir’s a real thing, if i lived in America, i could be treated for it. And the next person who tells me but IPL is coming no – will get a thwack on their head,

Anyway, the moments which stood out for me – recorded for the sake of my offspring, (who i hope wont have to wait 28 years or maybe they should have to wait??) was to see a country unite – By the only bond we have- CRICKET!!!

– Dhoni Expression when he hit the last six. The look in his eyes makes me get goosebumps – a realization to 1.2 billion of us – that yes we they had done it.
– Dhoni running to grab the stump before hugging yuvraj
– Yuvraj and bhajji crying & Sachin & Dhoni’s moist eyes
– Every single cricketer dedicating their win to Sachin. Sachin being carried by the young ones. Kirsten being carried by the young ones
– Virat’s amazing one liner – “He has carried the burden of the nation for 21 years, it’s our turn to carry him”
– Dhoni’s speech at the presentation

The way this team performed in the last three matches is what B-school case studies are made up of:

The world cup was never just about Sachin’s performance. Yes Yuvraj and Sachin stood out, but Virat, Raina, Zaheer, Nehra, Munaf, Dhoni – everyone had a role to play. Ummm Sreesanth am leaving you out of this one though! It was about team work

Many a time it was about quiet confidence and not loosing your head in the face of a tough situation. When the whole world thought the world cup was a lost cause after we lost Sehwag and Tendular. Two young boys believed – Gautam and Virat. Look at how Raina didn’t lose his head during the Australia match.

It was about grabbing opportunities when they came your way. Raina on being chosen over Pathan in Australia, and made sure he became a mainstay in the team. Nehra on being dropped and being the butt of all jokes, & Munaf who was cursed for his run rate came back and how against Sri-Lanka. The ‘young’ Ashwin made his mark too. All of them justified Dhoni’s confidence on them. (except ummm Sreesanth)

It was about hard work and believing in yourself – Case in point Yuvraj Singh. He lost his flamboyant “I am too young for my own boots” image and became India’s mainstay.

And Dhoni (drool drool! doesn’t he look so handsome ever since he won the WC for us) – I mean what a captain…he never lost his cool, took brave decisions and made the God of cricket call him the best captain ever!

Dear Indian cricket team – i can’t thank you enough! While i enjoyed the match, the celebrations were the best part. India united for the first time maybe. This was like a dream come true!T We still pinch ourselves to see if it is true. We want to tell the cynics lay off for now. It is a big deal for us.

It’s something we will watch re-runs of forever!

    You noticed Dhoni’s eyes too?
You are my soul sistah! 😀

Agree with every point you made 🙂
I have decided to ignore the sad lot with only criticism. India is famous – not for slums, cow on the road, lack of hygiene, terrorist attacks. But for winning a World cup!

Do you know how high my nose is in the air? 😀

Well I ma yet to write my psot, the reason why i havenot cause I am sure there will be loads of people who will get angry at what i have to write.

I agree with you that This was a team effort but we indians have this IDOL worship habit.. Now that dhoni hit the winning score he is the MAN any other had hit they would have been .. I am a great fan of each and every player I dont have anything to sayabout individual players but The team won cause they were a TEAM not because of Sachin or Dhoni .. (who by the way did nothing in any of the matches)

I was on twitter talking to a lot of blogegr friends and we had some fun , it was hilarious to see some mouthing off Nehra or Harbhajan and when they did one over good suddenly they were the best , I mean what sort of thing is this. I have written a post with a few twitter statements from others , It is really sad that we behave like this ..

It is a team effort and we WOULD not have won if any one had not done what they did .. in the finals to me All praise should have gone to Gambhir, he was the one who saved the match but as usual it was limelight stolen by someone else .. thats how the world works..

Same as Bhaji all saying he has not taken wickets yeah But he was not used for that he was asked all the time to stem the flow of runs to put pressure on opponent whichhe did and suddenly beacause of that the bowler on other end for the wickets ..

We indians have to grow up at mature supporters and give due support to those who deserve .. as you said its a TEAM effort.. No one could have done it Alone .. So well done to Team india and making us all so proud..

Why will anyone get angry at your thoughts. They are all very valid thoughts. yes Gambhir & Bhajji played their roles. Like Dhoni said – everyone had a responsibility within the team and they played their part!!! But i guess somewhere the more flamboyant players will always steal the limelight!

I will be honest. I did not watch the entire match. Was not much in to the entire world cup thing either. But D bullied me to come over to our friends place at the end, so watched the last hour and a little more of the game. And was there screaming and clapping at the end.

Am glad I did not miss it all. And my eyes were moist by the time the cup was handed to the boys. So proud of them. Also I kept wondering where Dhoni would disappear to? After all that he did, he let the spotlight be on Sachin. If you look at the team holding the cup pictures, he seems to be missing from most of them as well.

Super proud of the boys. And of all of us from nearly bringing FB down with the load we put on its poor servers. 😀

And so we won. And we made it history. Yay! I love all these WC posts. They make me smile over and over again. I did read a few posts that seemed critical of the celebrations. They got me mad. But for now, I don’t care. We won! And we will bask in the glory and celebrate. That’s all. 😀

In Sreesanth’s defense… he did spice up the game for us.Had he not bowled those overs, we would won so easily and there would not have been any excitement for us to watch.. Wat say??

    P.S I am not a fan of his. 🙂

well dorcas..u have a point. Sreesanth was the reason why Dhoni managed to score a 91…the joke is if Sreesanth was allowed to bowl one more over, Dhoni would have reached his century!

Such a rockstar he is! The ease with which he played the last six, his speech, his disappearing act, his new look – killer. 😀
